Middle School Social Studies
is comprised of World Regions and Georgia History. Sixth grade students learn about North America, Oceania, Europe and Russia, and Latin America. Seventh grade students study Africa, Middle East, and Asia. Eighth graders travel through time to learn the historical, political, economical, and geographical significance of the state of Georgia.
Reading is included in the social studies curriculum. This supports the requirement that every student reads 25 books or one million words a year across all subject areas. Middle school students are encouraged to read a minimum of three books each year that pertain to social studies such as historical fiction, biographies, autobiographies, and non-fiction to broaden their understanding of the world around them. We live in a global society that is more interdependent than every before. It is through the exposure to other cultures and places that respect, tolerance and empathy for others.
